The standard color sequence for the four fibers in a 4-core optical fiber cable is Blue, Orange, Green, and Brown.

Internal Fiber Colors

In a 4-core optical fiber cable, each fiber is individually color-coded to ensure proper identification during splicing, termination, and maintenance. According to the TIA-598-C standard, the first four fibers follow this sequence:

  3. Green

Outer Jacket and Buffer Tube Colors

The outer jacket of the cable may vary depending on the application:

  • Indoor cables often use LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) jackets, which are typically white or off-white.
  • Outdoor cables use PE (Polyethylene) jackets, often black for UV protection and waterproofing. Inside the cable, the buffer tube holding the fibers is usually blue or white, while the fibers themselves follow the Blue/Orange/Green/Brown sequence .

Practical Notes

  • The color coding ensures error-free splicing and easy identification in patch panels or splice closures.
  • For cables with more than 12 fibers, the 12-color sequence repeats, but in a 4-core cable, only the first four colors are used.
